Questions like: 1. Why are risks occurring? 2. Where are they hiding? 3. What do they look like? 4. What can I do? 5. Who can help? In the coming weeks, we’ll answer all of these questions, with valuable insights that you can take away and apply in your various supply chain arenas. Staring with “why are risks occurring?” Over the last few decades, supply chains have become increasingly complex and with that complexity comes risk. But why are these risks occurring in the first place? In this series, I’ll explore the key drivers behind supply chain risks, for example factors like outsourcing, low-cost country sourcing, lean processes, supply base rationalization, and siloed business functions. The goal is to help supply chain leaders understand where vulnerabilities are created so they can take proactive steps to identify, assess, and mitigate risk before it disrupts operations.
